Lunch with Sarah at Native Foods

Sunday (10/12/2014) after church, I took Sarah out to lunch to celebrate her (upcoming) “half birthday.” Amazingly she had never been to Native Foods, a vegan restaurant that I had been to many, many times ever since moving to Southern California in 2008.

I encouraged her to get one of my favorite dishes, the Oklahoma Bacon Cheeseburger. We also got a side of fries and an order of hot wings.

The Oklahoma Bacon Cheeseburger – Native Seitan, caramelized onions, crispy Native Bacon and melted cheddar cheese with BBQ sauce and ranch dressing. Romaine, carrots, onions and tomato topped with cornmeal crusted pickles. Served on a whole wheat bun.

I tried a new dish, the Heart Beet sandwich. Beet steaks, Native Blue Cheese, cucumber ribbons and daikon sprouts on golden toasted rye bread. It’s veggie-licious!

The sandwich was good, but not enough to become a favorite. The (non-dairy) “blue cheese” dressing is what made the sandwich tasty.
